Attention 10-15 year olds!!!!!

Are you afraid of being bored this summer?  Have you wanted to learn more about volunteering and how you can make a difference in our community?

 
The Volunteer Center is putting together a new summer youth program!This program is aimed at 10 – 15 year olds.  The program will meet on Mondays for 8 weeks from 10-1.  There will be an informational meeting on Monday, June 16th at 6:00 at the United Way building on 116 E. Fifth Street.  Parents are encouraged to come.  For more information call 705-8584.

 

Youth will learn:

            The etiquette of volunteering

            About the non-profit agencies in our community and what they do

            How to work as a team

            The role that volunteers play in any community

            The value volunteerism is to their future

 

What they will do:

            Earn hours toward a Presidential Youth Volunteerism Award

            Work in the Community Gardens

            Learn about the Community Food Pantry

            Clean walking trails

            Work on their creative side with making greeting cards

            Learn to make tie blankets

            Learn how to clean our lake and forest areas

The Volunteer Center strives to create meaningful service and leadership opportunities for our young people. Because we strongly believe that a habit of helping is likely to continue throughout their adult lives, the Center raises awareness and advocates for the involvement of youth in our community and its many organizations.

The Volunteer Center understands that the composition of every family is unique, but we also know that there is always someone who has the power to inspire. With one shared volunteer opportunity, children, older adults, and youth can learn how they have the ability to change their community for the better.

The Volunteer Center has become the link between the community, its volunteers and the services they provide on a daily basis. Connecting corporate resources strengthens the volunteer services and social mission of our many nonprofit organizations.
