THE MEDALLION
NOTE: A change has been made! The committee in Lansing has changed the requirements
so students can now count 30% or 120 hours of the required 400 served outside of county. This means if you go on a mission
trip or alternative spring break, your hours should count. Call Carol to be sure!
The Michigan Student Service
Award gold medallion is for those of us who are not a 4 point student or a star athlete. We just like to help out. Collect
your volunteer hours from the time you are a freshman until graduation and if you earn up to 400 hours you may be eligible
for your own shiny gold medallion to wear down the aisle at graduation! Stop by the Volunteer Center for more information
or request a copy of your hours on record. High School Seniors must finalize and submit their total hours no later than May
1st of their senior year.
By reporting all of your hours at the Volunteer Center, you will be able to participate
in all of the Volunteer Center's program. The medallion award has some restrictions, however:
Hours that DO
NOT count include: church-related activities that ONLY benefit the congregation, not the community at large; school-related
activities that ONLY help those connected, activities done for school credit or that are court ordered, political campaign
work, and a portion of volunteerism that takes place OUTSIDE of Otsego County.

NOTICE TO ALL 8TH GRADERS From the last day of school, your
volunteer hours will count for high school hours. This is important WHY? Your hours may help you earn scholarships,
awards, entry into National Honor Society, entry into college, and job experience.
MIDDLE SCHOOLERS If you are interested
in volunteer work after school once a week, please call Carol and let her know.
HIGH SCHOOLERS Applications and hour sheets can be found in the school counseling office.
A new volunteer leadership group is being formed. For information call the Volunteer Center.
Also, please turn in any volunteer hours served over the summer.
